IRCTC Tatkal Ticket Booking: July 2025 Update & Guide
IRCTC has just introduced significant changes to the Tatkal booking system—meant to increase fairness, curb misuse, and streamline your last-minute travel experience. Here’s everything you should know as of July 2025.
Aadhaar Verification Now Mandatory
- From July 1, 2025, only Aadhaar-verified IRCTC users can book Tatkal tickets online (web/app).
- This ensures real-user authentication and reduces bot-driven bookings.
OTP Authentication for All Bookings
- Starting July 15, 2025, Aadhaar-based OTP verification is required for all Tatkal ticket bookings—online, at PRS counters, and through agents.
- OTP will be sent to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number at the time of booking.
Agent Timing Restrictions
- Authorized agents cannot book Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the booking window:
- AC classes: 10:00–10:30 AM
- Non‑AC classes: 11:00–11:30 AM
- This gives individual users a fair chance at secure seats.
Chart Preparation & Fare Changes
- Reservation charts are now prepared 8 hours before train departure, up from 4 hours. (Source: Times of India)
- Certain fares on select routes have been increased slightly (approx. 1–2 paise/km).
Why These Changes Matter
- Reduces scalping and bulk ticketing by bots and fake accounts.
- Prioritizes genuine passengers with stricter identity verification.
- Promotes transparency and smoother booking experience.
What You Should Do
- Link your Aadhaar by July 1 at IRCTC Profile → Aadhaar KYC.
- Ensure your mobile is updated and linked with Aadhaar for OTP reception.
- Book Tatkal only after OTP verification after July 15.
- Avoid agent bookings in the restricted time slots to improve your chances.
